Bill SturtevantBill Sturtevant, with Jerold Panas, co-founded the Institute for Charitable Giving. That was twenty-two years ago. Since that time, it has enrolled over 9000 professional fundraisers and volunteer leaders in its seminars.

The Institute is regarded as one of the nation’s most significant training centers. Its primary focus is on major and planned gifts.  Its enrollees come from some of the most prestigious institutions in the country as well as one-person development shops. In addition to the Institute, he and Jerry Panas have worked together on nearly a hundred studies and Board Retreats. They collaborate in a variety of ways during the year with museums, medical centers, and universities.

Bill brings an extraordinary background to his work with the Panas organization. He was Senior Principal Gifts Consultant at the University of Illinois Foundation. In this position, he was responsible for identifying, cultivating, and securing eight and nine-figure gifts. He is regarded as one of the most effective fundraisers in the nation. Prior to this office, he was Vice President for Planned Giving and Trust Relations at the Foundation.

During his years at the University, he was directly involved with over $600 million in major gifts, and during the University’s recently completed campaign, the Principal Gifts Office guided the effort to secure 65 gifts of $5 million or more plus numerous major gifts below that level.

Bill Sturtevant is a nationally recognized specialist in major and deferred gifts planning and solicitation strategies. In addition, he has a thorough understanding of all aspects of the development activity. He is a superb strategist and brings great vision to his projects.

He earned the Certified Financial Planner designation and regularly assists a variety of charitable organizations for Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners with complicated or unusual gift situations. He has been listed in Who’s Who, and in 1995, he was honored him as Planned Giving Professional of the Year.

His seminars and presentations are extremely popular and he is a frequent speaker before development professionals, hospital groups, and civic organizations. He authored the best seller, The Artful Journey: Cultivating and Soliciting the Major Gift which was published in 1997. An enlarged and revised edition of The Artful Journey is now available through Institutions Press.

He is regarded as one of the most outstanding speakers and coaches in the country. His presentations are break-through in learning experiences. A teacher as well as a doer, he is rigorous in his pursuit of professionalism in fundraising. In major and planned gifts, he is without parallel.
