Jon Dellandrea

Jon DellandreaDr. Jon Dellandrea’s association with the firm is: Of Counsel. In that role, he provides guidance and strategic thinking to our programs. At times, he accepts assignments for selective clients of the firm.

Jon Dellandrea is regarded as one of the most talented and effective professionals in our field. He has won virtually every high honor and award available in the profession.

CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) named him professional of the year in 2005. Earlier, the Institute for Charitable Giving named him Laureate winner, awarded to the outstanding professional in North America.

He left his post this year as Pro-Vice Chancellor (Development and External Affairs) at the University of Oxford (UK). In North America, the title we most typically use for this position is Vice President.

Earlier in his career, he began receiving recognition when he served as Vice President of the University of Waterloo (Canada). From there, he became President of the Foundation at Mount Sinai Hospital. It is Toronto and Canada’s most prestigious medical center.

At Mount Sinai, he launched the largest healthcare campaign in the nation’s history at that time. The effort went over its goal of $400 million. It was also, until just recently, the largest amount ever raised in the country for any institution.

He went to the University of Toronto in 1994 as Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer. He headed all of the fundraising activities, alumni affairs, and public affairs for the University.

During his tenure at the University, he designed and implemented the largest campaign in the history of Canada. The program was so successful, leadership kept raising the goal. It was finally closed out at $1.2 billion. The President of the University credits Jon for the overwhelming success. No other institution in Canada has come close to matching this figure.

He is a sought-after presenter and regularly keynotes major conferences. He is on the permanent faculty of the acclaimed Hydra Institute (Greece), sponsored by the Institute for Charitable Giving. He was awarded the Order of Canada— the nation’s most significant citation, and the only time it has been bestowed on a professional in our field.

Dr. Dellandrea is an extraordinary strategist, a skilled asker (one of the most effective we know), and an effective manager. He sometimes breaks the hoary rules of fundraising. He is most assuredly not a traditionalist. That is what makes Jon Dellandrea one of the most exciting and valuable members of our team.
