Douglas Higgins

higgins--ill300Douglas Higgins is Senior Principal with Jerold Panas, Linzy & Partners. The firm is one of the nations most highly regarded in the field of campaign services and financial resource development. A major force in the industry, the company has offices in Chicago and Boston, and has served over 3900 client-institutions since its inception in 1968.

Doug has extensive experience in senior nonprofit management positions. These include successfully managing and directing programs in every aspect of fund development, public relations, marketing, community problem solving, and social planning.

His special skills include managing capital and annual campaigns, staff and volunteer recruitment, leadership development, strategic planning, program planning, and asset and needs assessment.

Doug began his career as a professor of social sciences in the State University of New York system. He also taught at the University of Nebraska and has lectured and presented seminars for the National Academy for Volunteerism at Stanford University and the University of Colorado. He has also been guest lecturer at Yale University, Boston College and Quinnipiac College, and has served as an Intern Supervisor for several colleges and universities.

He has published and co-authored a number of articles on management, social planning, and fund development and volunteerism. There is also a text on planning and allocations for hard times.

Doug served as Chief Executive Officer for United Ways in Nebraska and Connecticut. He also instructed classes for children with special needs, and honors classes in math and science.

Since joining JPL&P in 1998, Doug has played a leadership role, offering counsel and direction to a number of different organizations. These include community organizations, healthcare, higher education, and youth development. He has also served in a mentoring capacity – as a Personal Coach for young development profes- sionals and those new to the field.

In addition to his extensive experience in development and management, Doug’s strength as a professional consultant derives from his ability to quickly integrate and become a contributing member of staff and volunteer teams. He is engaging and has tremendous creative energy, tendered with a healthy dose of common sense and the ability to “keep it simple.”
